Surgery
In order to put braces on Brayden we have had to check on a few things. The dentist suggested he have therapy and see an ENT. He started speech therapy for tongue thrust so he wouldn't push on his teeth. After visiting with the ENT it was decided he needed his tonsils and adnoids taken out. Brayden has always been a mouth breather. We scheduled surgery for after school let out for the summer.
Before Surgery ~ PreOp
After Surgery so we thought. The doctor came in and told us he did great but was concerned about his blood pressure. He told us the tonsils weren't the issue but the adnoids were making it so Brayden couldn't breathe through his nose. He confirmed that he had obstructive sleep apnea. We got to Brayden and he was drinking and eating great until... he vomited blood clear across the hall and his blood pressure went even higher. The nurses rushed in, got most of the blood cleaned up, and called the doctor to come back. They call them complications. The doctor got back to the hospital, checked Brayden and told us he needed to get him back to the OR to help clot the problem area. Off they go again...
Take Two! The second time took much longer than the first and we were in the waiting room wondering what was taking so long. They brought him back out of the anesthesia much slower and he was still coming out of it when they called us back to be with him. Brayden was completely out of it the second go around and took him a long time to even accept liquid.
Post-Op
After both surgeries and ready to get home after a very long day at the hospital!
He is back to his normal self after about a 2 week recovery. He had a follow up with the ENT to check his out and confirm his blood pressure came down and stayed down. We have another follow up here in a few weeks. Now he needs to learn to breathe through his nose and work on his tongue placement and swallowing.
